After growing up in Brentwood, TN, and graduating from Auburn University, Steve Norris spent 20 years working as a healthcare consultant. During this time, he traveled the country managing large scale revenue cycle improvement projects for some of the nation’s most prestigious academic medical centers. In 2010, after the sale of the company that he had helped build, Steve decided to get off the road and retired from the consulting world. It didn’t take long to realize that something would need to take the place of work, so the search began for an organization to volunteer with.
In 2013, he found the Y-Build program run by the downtown YMCA. This program focused on helping disadvantaged men find full-time employment in the construction industry. After volunteering with Y-Build for about one year, Steve learned that the YMCA was planning to shut down the program by the end of 2014. Rather than allow the program to terminate, he volunteered to form a new organization and take over programming. In the summer of 2014, 4:13 Strong was incorporated, and Steve has been working as a full-time volunteer, 4:13 Strong President and Board Chair ever since. Steve is a great leader and the way he leads through service is an inspiration.
